The Party and the "Soldiers of Luthuli"

The South African Communist Party is important in both the liberation history of South Africa of South Africa and the present-day government of the country. But its history remains largely shrouded in mystery, and is inaccessible to ordinary people. In this, Eddy Maloka attempts to shed light on a period of which comparatively little has been written.

The story of this of the SACP begins with the arrest of the first generation of MK commanders under the leadership of Nelson Mandela, following the police ambush on their hideout in Rivonia. In the aftermath of Rivonia Trial, coupled with the 90-day detention law, many SACP leaders, together with those from ANC, were forced to flee the country and go into exile. This volume is the story of those leaders, their relationship with the ANC, and their struggles to keep a movement alive, until their eventual homecoming in the early 1990s.
